What To Know About A Pashmina Cashmere Shawl

By Alba Durham

Certain fashion trends and items are used by women worldwide. One of these items is the pashmina cashmere shawl that is considered by many as an important part of their wardrobe. This kind of product has been widely used not only in recent years but for hundreds of years already.

This product is derived from a goat's wool. However, this is just no ordinary goat. They come from the Himalayas and they are indigenous and of a special breed. The wool is produced by the animals to keep them warm during winter and then they shed it after the cold season. After they shed it, people gather the wool, spin it and weave it manually, and place some embroideries on them before they are sold.

This fabric has different qualities that you can buy. For the best quality, the wool must be taken from the upper part of the animal's chest or its throat. These are delicate and soft that is why they are hand-woven. Because they are quite expensive, you might want the other kind which is of lower quality. This is taken from its belly or shoulder, although it is still pure pashmina.

The first years that these were used to make the shawls, not everyone were able to wear it. Hundreds of years ago, this material was reserved for the use of Kashmir royalties. Commoners were not able to buy the raw materials or the finished products. This can also be because of the very expensive price of this item.

Nowadays, though, there are already many stores worldwide that sell these items. Buyers just have to be careful from false labeling when products are labeled to be pure pashmina even if it is a blend of cashmere and silk. It is very important for the buyers to know what to look for to tell the difference so that they would not be cheated out of their money.

You must also consider the workmanship and quality of this product. Those that are handmade are much better than the ones that were machine-brushed. Exposing this material to chemicals can shorten its life span and it can affect its durability. They can become too thin so they can tear out quite easily.

After getting the product, it is necessary for the owner to learn the right way of cleaning and maintaining it in good condition. She should read the instructions that come with it properly so she would know if it is supposed to be hand-washed or if it should be dry-cleaned. This usually depends on the fiber that the material contains and it should be followed properly.

If you do wash it, you must look for a detergent that is gentle so you would not damage it. You must dilute this detergent in the basin filled with water before you submerge the material there. After a short while, you must get it properly, and let it dry with the air without twisting or wringing it so that no damages or creases will be incurred.

For you to preserve the colors of your pashmina cashmere shawl, you must not keep it under direct sunlight. You must ensure that they are kept properly by folding them neatly, avoiding any creasing, and then placing them in the drawer or closet. If you want, you can also hang them, as long as the hanger is padded.
