By Shari Evans

Getting married is a very special time is everyone's life. Before you can make it to the big day, you have to plan your proposal. Having just the right ring is the best way to ensure your proposal goes well. You may have already talked about ring styles with your girlfriend, but if not, it can be difficult to know what style ring to choose. If you are having trouble deciding on a ring, take a look at some of the current engagement ring trends for inspiration.

There are many ways to track wedding ring trends, and right now, the trends offer something for every type of style. The top three trends right now allow you to find a ring the suits your girlfriends personal style all while sticking with current engagement ring trends. Here is a look at three of the most coveted engagement ring trends for this season.

Top three engagement ring trends

The first engagement ring trend this season that is for girls who love things that sparkle. Imagine a traditional solitaire diamond, but instead of a plain gold band, a band of sparkling diamonds wraps around your fianc's finger. This style ring is called a pave setting. With this type of setting, diamonds are inset in the band on all visible sides of the ring giving it a fully diamond covered look. With the paved setting, the band stands up so that diamonds cover three sides of the band. Another way to accomplish this look on a budget is to choose a ring with a flat band. With only one side to cover in diamonds, your costs will generally be lower.

The second major trend that is appearing in engagement ring design collections for this season, are uniquely shaped diamonds. There are still plenty of options for people who want to be more traditional, but if you look to the past you may find inspiration to help you incorporate this new trend. Marquise, pear, and emerald shaped diamonds are just a few of the unique new shapes that can be found in today's current engagement rings. In the past at one time or another, all of these shapes once appeared on the hands of the rich and famous. For an even more unique look, the cut of the diamonds is not the only way to have a ring with a unique shape, diamonds arranged in floral or heart patterns are also popular this season.

The traditional monochromatic look of platinum and white diamond engagement rings of the past several years have begun to fade. In their place, we are seeing many ways to add color into traditional engagement ring settings. Large colored gemstones like a ruby or colored diamond are begin used as the center piece of the ring. For a nod to tradition, many designers are surrounding these colored stones with more traditional, smaller, white diamonds.
