All About Pandora

By Anita Hale

Pandora is a well known jewellers that originated in Denmark. Today it's mainly recognised for its range of charms and related charm jewellery. Thus far Pandora has made over eight hundred distinctive charm designs. These which are being offered for sale throughout fifty international locations. It additionally turns out a multitude of other kinds of jewellery. This includes pendants, watches and earrings.

The corporation's beginnings lie with husband and wife Per and Winnie Enevoldsen. Per laboured as a goldsmith up until 1982. This is when the pair opened their first jewellery shop in the Danish capital of Copenhagen. The couple made regular trips to Thailand on the lookout for jewellery which could prove saleable in their shop back.

However, by 1984 they realised that it was better to focus their know-how on wholesale. They did this in addition to running their retail outlet. The wholesale business required them to open a manufacturing facility overseas. This was called Pandora Productions. They then teamed up with Lone Frandsen to develop their own jewellery range.

By 1987 the business became rebranded as simply "Pandora." Manufacturing was moved back to Denmark. Engineering was relocated back to Per and Winnie's own country with a head office located in Copenhagen. During the same year the company made a decision to end all sales activity. This effectively meant that Pandora was now strictly a jewellery designer and wholesale vendor.

Pandora obtained an additional jewellery designer named Lisbeth En Larsen in 1996. She operated alongside Lone Frandsen. Together they helped create and define a style of jewellery unlike any that had been seen before. This would become synonymous with the Pandora brand.

It was in the year 2000 that the decisive moment arrived. This was the year that Pandora presented its initial selection of charms and bracelets. It truly was a well judged announcement as charms were becoming fashionable again. Even so it was Pandora that paved the way. They used an advertising tagline of "one charm for every unforgettable moment in your life." The Pandora charms were composed of fine quality metals such as sterling silver and gold. You could also buy colourful murano glass charms. These were handcrafted from glass in the Venetian island of Murano in Italy. This mixture of good quality elements and a strong assortment of designs proved to be a winner with customers.

Every charm was machined using Pandora's branded threading system. This meant that each individual charm must be screwed over the threaded end of the Pandora bracelet to correctly secure it. This was to be a shrewd decision by Pandora. It ensured that buyers could only attach their Pandora charms onto a Pandora bracelet. They would not be able to use a different brand of charms with the bracelet.
