Tips On Finding The Right Gold Necklaces

By Jerri Perry

When purchasing gold necklaces, there are several factors to consider aside from the type and design you wanted to buy. Checking these factors would guarantee that you get the piece that best suits you needs. Also, it helps in ensuring that you get the best deal for your money.

Necklaces may come in solid pieces or plated gold. The pieces that are plated are much less expensive but after using it for some time, the plating may eventually wear off and may therefore need replating to restore the color. That means, solid pieces are better purchases since they are more durable.

Jewelries that are made hollow are also available. This makes them lighter than the solid pieces and are also less expensive. The thing is, these pieces have potential problems since they may break easily or may be vulnerable to dents, which means wearing them requires extra care.

These jewelries are also available in different karats. When choosing the right karat, it is important to note that the purer the gold, the less durable it becomes. If the piece is to be worn everyday, a 10 or 14 karat one would be best since the higher percentage of other metal elements present on the piece makes it more durable. Some people may be allergic to nickel though which is usually what is used on the alloys. If that is the case a piece with 18 or higher karat value is best. Another option is to choose a nickel free piece that is also available.

Another thing to consider is the type of link since they come in different variety. The type of link also affects the resoluteness of the piece and its chances of breaking or getting twisted. More prone to breaking or twisting are flat chains like the herringbone or omega. The thickness of its link is as important as its type especially if it includes a pendant, which adds up to its weight. Anchor chains and box chains are some of the chains types that can be selected.

One more thing that must be checked is the clasp. See to it that the clasp closes properly and does not break easily. Solid lobster clasps are often preferred over spring loaded ring clasp because it holds well.

Finally, consider how long the necklace should be. Depending on the preference, one can choose the choker length to emphasize the neckline, the opera length that goes over one's dress or the princess length which hangs over the wearer's collar bones. The opera length is of dramatic length.

Also, make sure to check the quality of the piece's surface. It has to be smooth to make sure that it does not irritate the skin after wearing it for a long period of time and that it does not catch on the clothes that you are wearing. To check the quality, just run your finger throughout the piece.

Whether to be used as a gift or for personal use, choosing the right gold necklaces is sure to give whoever wears it added style and class. Always remember these tips when buying your jewelry piece. This gives you the assurance that you get to buy the best one for you.
